Even before the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic impacted the greater Philadelphia region, Bristol House Memory Care in Warrington, PA, implemented proactive measures to limit visitations, perform wellness checks on staff and residents, and tighten entry protocols. Bristol House currently has no COVID-19 cases because of their early action to mitigate the virus risks. There are other factors that make Bristol House an ideal place to shelter for seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Bristol House is a new community that opened in 2019. The building never completely filled up with residents because the management wanted to grow the correct way: slowly and methodically to provide superior care to residents and their families. To date, the community still is not full and offers adequate space and pace required for care during a pandemic. This is in contrast to other almost-full communities bursting at the seams with residents and the required staff and vendors needed to operate such a facility. Even at full capacity, the building is designed for a comfortable experience. Total capacity is only 48 residents, and the facility has two identical wings of 24 private rooms. At present, all residents live in the private rooms of one of the wings, leaving the other wing safely available for tours of interested residents and families to view. Prospective residents can tour the vacant wing after completing a rigorous health check, and there is no risk to the residents located in the separate secured area of the building.
Additionally, Bristol House is privately owned by a local family whose management philosophy has always been to recruit and train the area’s best employees. This includes paying higher-than-average wages to the staff and treating employees like family. Ultimately, care is better, residents are happier, and employee turnover is lower. Staffing levels at Bristol House are consistent, and between low turnover and solid staffing, fewer people are entering the building. This is a distinction from many other senior living communities that have high staff turnover and depend on outside staffing agencies to provide direct care. Staff consistency is directly proportional to quality care and lower probabilities for COVID-19 exposure.
Bristol House is currently accepting residents! After completing a full health check and intake protocol, new residents can be admitted into the community safely. It is our top priority to keep our current residents safe, and we are also able to responsibly accept new residents who need safe living arrangements during this time.
